First stop, Ashford Castle, just outside of Cong.
This is where John Wayne and Maureen O'hara stayed while filming "The Quiet Man" was being filmed. Great castle with VERY limited access unless you are staying there. "RESIDENTS ONLY" signs all over the place. Nice walk on the grounds while Mom tried to get some rest. Then on to the Abby ruins in town. Drove around Cong a bit, partly looking for the way out and looking for the bar where they fought in.
Headed out of Cong toward Connemara National Park. Past Lennane
up long circuitous roads up mountains, past Letterfrack and into the ark. We had a nice light lunch and Chris and I took the 1.5 Km walk while mom again tried to rest in the car.
After Connemara we back tracked through Lennane and on towards Sligo. A long long way on N59, through Westport, Castlebar, to Carrowcanada where we decided to backtrack to Knock. to visit the Shrine.
After the visit, we headed down the road to fine the Pearce Lodge, beds for the night. Found it with little problem, The rooms proved to be the best so far, and the owners were the most hospitable to date. Gave us great suggestions for dinner and a Pub. Mom rested with a chicken pot pie from across he road and Chris and I went in to town for dinner and a pint at Hargadons Pub the oldest Pub in town.
